FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
The American Licorice Company is recalling a batch of its black licorice because it may have too much lead.
The recall affects one-pound packages of Red Vines Black Licorice Twists with the best before date "020413."
Officials with the California Department of Public Health say tests show the product contains levels of lead that are more than twice the recommended daily limit for young children.
Authorities say pregnant women and parents of small children should contact their doctor if they have recently eaten the licorice.
For more information, people can call the company's consumer response line at (866) 442-2783.
