Getting Robbed While Gardening; Thieves Target Elderly Woman’s Home

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

"They invaded my personal property. That's what they did," Dorothy said. "Over 60 years you accumulate a lot of jewelry."

Dorothy started her morning just like she does every other.

"I went for a walk. I came back, had breakfast. Around eight I went out in the back to go water and piddle around in my garden," Dorothy said.

But as she was piddling around in her garden, a couple of thugs were piddling around in her house.

They kicked in her front door.

"I didn't hear anything," she said.

And they grabbed everything they could get their hands on.

"They took my original wedding rings from 1945, my 25 year gold diamond ring, my 50 year diamond ring," Dorothy said. "They took the television, big old thing, carried it out and the neighbors saw it."

Kevin Lee lives just two houses down from Dorothy.

"See something like this, it's scary," Lee said.

Kevin says he even saw the guys taking stuff out of Dorothy's home, like her big screen TV.

You can still see the tire tracks in front of Dorothy's home where the crooks got in their car and sped off.

"I saw two guys just jump in very fast to the car and run away that direction. I tried to follow," Lee said.

Dorothy says she had plans for all that precious family jewelry the thieves took.

"Give it to my granddaughters, just waited too long to do it," she said.

Now, she's left with regret and can only ask why.

"Why did they take all that stuff? Why did they take it? I earned it all, hard work. And they took it away from me," Dorothy said.

Fresno County Sheriff's Deputies don't have much to go on as far as a description of the two men.

Neighbors could only tell them that they got away in a four-door silver sedan.

But they're hoping more neighbors or people who may have been driving by at the time saw something.

If you know anything, you're urged to contact the sheriff's department at 559-488-3939.
