FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Mosquitoes all over the Central Valley are testing positive for West Nile virus.
Kings County announced ten new cases Friday.
In Fresno County, mosquitoes and birds in Fresno, Clovis, Sanger, Del Rey, Fowler, Parlier, Reedley, Selma and Riverdale are also testing positive for the disease.
So far this year, officials have confirmed five people sick with West Nile in Fresno County.
People get the disease from infected mosquitoes. The mosquitoes themselves get West Nile virus from infected birds.
About 80 percent of people who are infected with the virus won't show any symptoms, but 20 percent can have a fever, headaches, body aches, vomiting and a rash.
People are advised to use insect repellent with DEET. The maximum concentration recommended for children is 30 percent.
West Nile virus is most detrimental to children, seniors and people with weaker immune systems.
Two weeks ago, an elderly Bakersfield woman died from the virus.
