Boy Swept Away In Yosemite River; Search Continues

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KMPH) -

The search continued Friday for a 6-year-old boy who was swept away in the Merced River in Yosemite National Park.

It happened at the Vernal Falls Footbridge on Wednesday.

Park officials say Jacob Adams, of Orange County, and his 10-year-old brother were with their family on the river when the two boys were swept away by the current.

The older boy was pulled out of the water, but could not be revived.

Yosemite National Park Rangers are searching for Jacob in and around the Merced River, from the Vernal Fall Footbridge to Happy Isles. This mile-long stretch of river is characterized by large boulders, chutes and small waterfalls. Although the river level is low, park rangers say the current in sections of the river is deceptively swift.

The area is a popular one with tourists, and it will remain open during the search.
