FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Did the city of Fresno destroy a perfectly good sidewalk?
City officials say "no."
In a story KMPH first brought you last Friday, we told you about sidewalks built by Caltrans just three-and-a-half years ago on the 200 block of North Fulton Street near Downtown Fresno.
Homeowner Jack Fletcher says these sidewalks ran across the front of his home and were ripped out by the city of Fresno.
Fletcher says the sidewalks were in perfect condition, with no cracks or problems.
On Monday, KMPH News received this statement from City of Fresno Public Works Manager Brian Russell:
"The sidewalk was damaged by tree roots resulting in the sidewalk being out of ADA [Americans With Disabilities Act] compliance."
But Fletcher maintains that the sidewalks were fine and that removing and replacing them is a waste of tax dollars.
