700-Acre Fire Burns In Sierra National Forest

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Firefighters are battling a large fire in the Sierra National Forest.

The 700-acre "Bear Fire" is burning in the John Muir Wilderness, between Edison and Florence Lake; that's about two-and-a-half hours northeast of Fresno.

U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Rebecca Garcia says several lightning strikes started the fire over the weekend.

High winds and rough terrain are making it difficult to fight the flames.

The fire was approximately 50 percent contained Thursday afternoon.

No structures are threatened.
