FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Dozens of your friends and neighbors discovered what it's like to ride in the back of a patrol car. Thursday many people were locked up to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Jennifer Arabian of Fresno is an MDA jailbird. Jennifer got lots of stares as she was escorted through Fashion Fair Mall to a patrol unit waiting to take her "up town." Slates is one of the finer restaurants in Northeast Fresno. On Thursday it was jail to men and women working the phones to get cut loose from lockup.

When the bell rings an MDA jailbird has just picked up another donation to send a kid to summer camp. This is Jennifer's first time raising money for Muscular Dystrophy. "My boss actually gave someone my name and they called and I said sure I'll do it. It will be fun and I've had a blast trying to raise money."

The MDA lockup is held in five different Valley cities to raise money and awareness about neuromuscular diseases.

Mike Dupree of Fashion Furniture Outlet volunteered for a second consecutive year. "The first thing that came to my mind was the enjoyment my sales consultants had watching me get in the car and the second thing was how uncomfortable the back seat of that car is."

Dupree pledged to raise $24-hundred but he exceeded that goal bringing in $37–hundred. He credits his success to generous family members and a network of friends. Jennifer and Mike two of many people who made a difference for MDA.

The four other cities hosting MDA lockups are Bakersfield, Visalia, Tulare and Merced.
