FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
The results are in from this weekend's 2nd annual Dos Palos K9 Trials.
A total of 31 K9 teams from around the state, and Nevada, competed in the two-day event in Dos Palos.
Three members of the Fresno Police Department's K9 Unit competed in this Trial, taking home several honors.
Officer Tushnet and his K9 partner Kubo competed in the Narcotic Detection competition, while Officer Young and K9 Flurk along with Officer Sotelo and K9 Tico competed in the Patrol K9 competition.
This competition simulates real-life situations that a K9 Officer may face in street. On the first day, K9 Officers participated in Narcotic or Explosive detection searches. Then on the second day, they competed in the Patrol K9 portion, which includes obedience, agility, area searches and officer protection.
Here are the results of the Fresno Police Department's teams:
Day 1: Narcotics Detection, 30 K9 teams competed
Building Search, Narcotics
3rd Place Building Search – Officer Tushnet and K9 Kubo
Overall, Narcotics
3rd Place – Officer Tushnet and K9 Kubo
Day 2: Patrol K9, 31 K9 teams competed
Officer Protection
3rd Place – Officer Young and K9 Flurk
Area Search
1st Place – Officer Sotelo and K9 Tico
Overall
2nd Place – Officer Young and K9 Flurk (beating out 29 other competitors!)
The next K9 Trials in the Central Valley will be the 2nd annual Twilight Park K9 Classic held in Woodlake, CA on Sept 28 & 29, 2012.
