VISALIA, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Visalia father is behind bars, accused of hurting his baby to the point of leaving the child unconscious.

Visalia Police were called to the home of 37-year-old Bryan Mark Hvass on Wednesday.

Officers say they found a baby, less than a year old, who had injuries consistent with baby shaken syndrome.

The child was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, and was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Hvass was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Jail on suspicion of felony child abuse.
