FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
New details continue to surface in the hit-and-run accident involving Central High School basketball coach Loren LeBeau.
Fresno police say they want to know whether or not the 42 year old was alone in his car when he struck and killed Donovan Maldonado and injured his younger sister, Bella and their father, Jesse.
Fresno police say LeBeau told them he was returning home from a day at Bass Lake at the time of the accident.
But investigators now confirm they are looking into the possibility that he may have been drinking at a local establishment, and he left with several people and had at least one or more passengers in his car at the time of the accident.
Captain Andy Hall says, "We have had some information that there might have been a passenger or maybe even multiple passengers in the vehicle. We are looking for them if they exist and if someone has information we'd like them to come forward. We obviously would like to talk to them they were witnesses to a crime."
Fresno police say blood toxicology tests prove Loren LeBeau was over the legal limit.
Officers say LeBeau recorded a 0.11 blood alcohol level, which is above the state's 0.08 limit for DUI.
To those who continue to hit the street raising money for the Maldonado family say it doesn't make a difference because Donovan is still gone.
Shelby Bethel says, "Honestly I don't think that's there is any level that you should be driving drunk. It is pretty bad. It was very avoidable."
Family and friends of the Maldonados have set up a bank account to help
with funeral costs and other expenses. Donations can be made to the
"Maldonado Memorial Fund" at any Bank of America branch.
