Deadly Crash: Coach's Blood-Alcohol Test Results Released

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Fresno Police on Monday released the blood-alcohol test results for a high school coach who they say crashed into a family, leaving a young boy dead.

The results indicate that Loren LeBeau was driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.11 percent, according to a news release from the police department.

The legal limit for drivers in California is 0.08 percent.

LeBeau, who is the Central High School varsity boys' basketball coach, was arrested after the July 25 crash near Shepherd and Millbrook in Northeast Fresno. Investigators say he crashed into 7-year-old Donovan Maldonado, the boy's father and his younger sister while the three rode their bikes.

Police say LeBeau dragged Donovan two-tenths of a mile. They say LeBeau then took off, leaving Donovan in the street, but eventually drove back to the scene and got out of his car.

Police say LeBeau failed a sobriety test and was taken into custody.

Donovan was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

Donovan's sister -- 18-month-old Bella -- was last listed in critical condition. Their father -- Jesse Maldonado -- was last listed in fair condition.

LeBeau was booked into the Fresno County Jail, but was released on bail about 12 hours later. The coach is currently on paid-administrative leave.

Family and friends of the Maldonados have set up a bank account to help with funeral costs and other expenses. Donations can be made to the "Maldonado Memorial Fund" at any Bank of America branch.
