Fresno, Calif. - For the second consecutive night, the Fresno Grizzlies allowed just one run in a victory. On Thursday night, however, the Grizzlies offense scored just enough runs to support the pitching as they beat the Las Vegas 51s 2-1 at Chukchansi Park.
Juan Ciriaco drove in the only Fresno runs with a two-run double to right-center field in the fourth inning. Ciriaco plated Todd Linden and Charlie Culberson, who reached on a single and walk, respectively.
Las Vegas answered Fresno's run with a one tally in the top of the fifth. With runners at second and third, Moises Sierra hit a fly ball to right field. The Fresno centerfielder Ryan Lollis ran into right fielder Skyler Stromsmoe, allowing the ball to drop and score Adeiny Hechavarria.
Fresno starting pitcher Jason Stevenson escaped the fifth inning jam by recording back-to-back outs. The left-hander allowed one run in six innings pitched during his fourth win of the season with Fresno.
Three Grizzlies relievers combined to hold the 51s scoreless over three innings. MLB rehabber Shane Loux threw a scoreless seventh, and Edlefsen did not allow a run in the eighth. Jean Machi closed out the game in the ninth for his 11th save of the year.
Bill Murphy suffered the loss for Las Vegas, scattering eight hits and surrendering two runs in six innings.
Las Vegas went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position while Fresno had one hit in seven opportunities with runners on second or third.
Nick Noonan and Linden each had two hits apiece. Noonan had a triple in the fifth inning.
The other MLB rehabber on the Grizzlies tonight Hector Sanchez started at catcher and went 0-for-3 at the plate.
The Grizzlies and 51s will complete their four-game set at Chukchansi Park on Friday at 7:05 pm. It will be the final meeting between the two teams in 2012. Left-hander Clayton Tanner of Fresno will oppose right-hander Sean O'Sullivan of Las Vegas.
