MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

The Madera County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol say they are investigating a crash at Bass Lake that killed two people who were driving a stolen car.

The CHP says the driver of a 2001 BMW was going too fast on a curve, lost control, and crashed into several trees in the area of Road 274 and Lakeview Drive at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies say the car had been stolen this past weekend from an auto sales lot off Highway 41 in Oakhurst.

Based on evidence found inside the BMW, Madera County Sheriff John Anderson believes the driver -- 19-year-old Albert Hammond -- and the passenger -- 20-year-old Dylan Beazley -- may be connected to the theft.

Deputies say Beazley was wanted on previous drug charges, and Hammond just got out of jail, arrested for burglary, drugs and other crimes.
