DMV Computer Shutdown Caused By Power Outage

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Valley residents wanting to visit the Department of Motor Vehicles encountered long lines and slow online service Monday morning because of a power outage over the weekend.

DMV computers were offline when the office was supposed to open, causing a big back up in service.

Online users were also met with a message in red, warning of slow service.

The state's technology office was hit with a power outage over the weekend that affected hundreds of state and local agencies.

But only part of DMV's computer system came back on-line, several customers said the slowdown was extremely inconvenient.

Giancarlo Primavera says, "Very crowded and hot all of a sudden not calling the numbers in progress, we wait, we wait and we wait."

Full service was restored by 5 o'clock Monday night.

DMV officials say the best way to avoid lines is to make an appointment at www.dmv.ca.gov.
