77 New Computers Stolen In Library Burglary

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

"I have a very low-tolerance for anybody breaking in to anyone's property," Victoria Sumler said.

Without the library at Kings Canyon and Clovis, Sumler's son would not be very happy with her.

"I'm using the library to print out my son's sports physical form because he has to get his physical today, so he can get his gear on Monday," Sumler said. "It's very important because right now my printer is down."

10-year-old Ryan Teasley came to the library to spend some quality time with his big brother.

"I come here to get books and get on the computer," he said.

Cindy Jackson uses the same library every week.

"The computers, rent out games and movies, because you know, they're all free. So it makes it easier to rent them from here than to buy them," Jackson said.

Cindy, Ryan and Victoria are all indirect victims of a burglary at the library July 4th.

Thugs broke in and took 77 Dell computers.

They were all still in their boxes.

The total amount of the stuff taken is about $50,000.

"I don't believe that someone would do that, especially here, it's such a nice place," Jackson said.

"It doesn't make any sense at all. And I don't appreciate it," Sumler said.

Thankfully, the library still has computers to meet the needs of the people who rely on it.

But with an already over-stretched budget and limited resources, the last things the county needs to lose are computers it can hardly afford to replace.

Deputies say the people who broke in entered a pass code to disarm the security alarm.

Investigators are still looking at several leads to try and bring the computers back to where they belong.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the Fresno County Sheriff's Office at 559-488-3111.
