FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Three days have now passed since the shooting at a Colorado movie theatre.
Sunday, President Obama visited Aurora, to offer comfort to the community as they try to cope with unimaginable sadness.
While 24 people remain in the hospital - we're told nine are in bad shape, listed in critical condition.
President Obama proceeded immediately to the University of Colorado Aurora Hospital to meet with the families of the twelve people that were killed.
Raw emotions could be seen in the public square outside Aurora City Hall.
The president expressed his sorrow for a shaken community suffering an overwhelming loss, saying, "I had a chance to visit with each family, give folks some hugs, to shed some tears, but also to share some laughs as they remembered the wonderful lives that these men and women represented."
Together with prayer and reflection, the community gathered at a vigil, remembering the lives cut short at the Century 16 Theatre early Friday morning.
A community that is seeking solace in the face of a senseless tragedy.
"It reminds you that even in the darkest of days: life continues, and people are strong, and people bounce back and people are resilient," said the President.
Residents are still not being allowed back inside the apartment building where James Holmes, the man accused of the shootings, lived.
He is expected to make his first court appearance Monday morning.
