FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Nine Valley veterans were called together Friday to be honored and thanked with their very own, one-of-a-kind quilts.
A "Quilts Of Honor" ceremony was held at the Legion of Valor Museum in Fresno.
The organization delivers quilts, hand made by volunteers, to veterans as a "thank you" for their sacrifices.
Founder Gail Belmont says it's a practice that goes all the way back to the American Civil War. But, she says, the rewards are timeless.
"I can't say enough how good it feels to thank somebody that's never been thanked and often they cry when they get the quilt because they understand what it means. It's a labor of love."
If you would like to recommend a veteran to receive a Quilt Of Honor, volunteer to help make quilts or donate you can go to the organizations web site: www.quiltsofhonor.org.
