COALINGA, Calif. (KMPH) -
Investigators say a fire that destroyed two homes in Coalinga early Monday morning was a case of arson.
It happened around 2 a.m. on Coolidge and Pine.
The Coalinga Fire Department says the family of three was inside the home when they smelled smoke and ran out.
A fence was on fire, and the flames quickly spread to two homes.
Cal Fire and Fresno County firefighters helped knock down the fire.
Firefighters say an hour later, someone started a fire in a nearby creek bed. Crews were able to put out that fire as well.
Damage is estimated at $200,000.
