PISMO BEACH, Calif. (AP) - A 12-foot shark spotted off a California central coast beach has led to posting of warning signs for surfers, swimmers and kayakers.

A surfer reported seeing the shark Thursday morning about 150 yards offshore and just south of the Pismo Beach Pier.

The Fire Department says it considers it a credible dangerous animal sighting.

Warning signs posted on the beach on Thursday will remain in place until at least Sunday.

Battalion Chief Paul Lee tells the San Luis Obispo County Tribune (http://bit.ly/OCMZ78) hopes people will stay out of the ocean near the pier, but he adds that people cannot be banned from going into the water.
