Samuel Mejia
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
A man is in very bad shape after he was shot by Fresno Police Thursday evening.
It happened shortly after 7 p.m. near Dakota and Saginaw in Central Fresno.
According to Police Chief Jerry Dyer, officers were in the area and wanted to question 32-year-old Samuel Mejia and a woman about a recent pair of shootings.
That's when Dyer says Mejia took off.
Officers ordered Mejia to stop. They even used their stun guns.
That didn't work, and at one point officers say Mejia pulled a gun on them.
Officers fired a single shot and hit him. He was taken to a hospital and had surgery Thursday night.
The officers were not hurt.
Dyer says Mejia's gun was recovered at the scene.
Police say Mejia is expected to survive.
