FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
It happens every July. It seems we're never prepared for consecutive days of triple–digit heat. Some people don't dare go outdoors and there are others who like to wade in a river. Then there are the old schoolers who need just a small stream of water to cool off.
Who needs a swimming pool or water slide when you've got a faucet that can cool off half a dozen people? On the fifth consecutive day of triple-digit heat Wednesday a Dad from Fresno was waist deep with his two kids skipping rocks on the San Joaquin River. "Trying to beat the heat. It's really hot today. Trying to stay fresh. Keep the kids fresh and active."
Down stream is a much more popular area at Lost Lake near Friant. The high there was 108 degrees and it seemed everyone was in the water. J.T. Thomas brought his family. "Yeah we came out here cause it was hot and this is what we do on a day to day basis. Since the summertime was come out here and have fun."
The geese didn't seem too disturbed about Wednesday's heat. At Woodward Park half the flock stayed on shore in the shade while the rest of the crowd floated on the lake.
On Clovis Avenue at Belmont the Wednesday evening drive home slowed to a crawl due to a power outage in the area. Close to 3–thousand customers were impacted in Southeast Fresno.
On a positive note the sun was keeping a stop sign blinking at Fresno State. It's solar powered and operates 24 hours a day.
Finally if five days of triple digits are getting to you then head over to Ashlan and Clovis. The temperature sign is far from accurate but it will get you thinking about cooler days ahead.
Chief Meteorologist Kevan Ramer predicts the triple-digit streak will continue for at least another three days.
