FARMERSVILLE, Calif. (KMPH) -

A 3-year-old girl was rescued from a Farmersville canal Monday.

Farmersville Police say several teenagers were playing in the area of Sycamore Avenue and Camelia Street when they saw what they believed was a doll floating in the canal.

The teens realized it was a child and had their parents call 911.

The girl was rescued and taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for observation. Officers say she was awake and responsive.

Investigators say the girl wandered from her home near Larry Street and Hester Avenue and jumped into the canal. They say the girl's mother called the police department to report the child missing just moments after the rescue.

Police say they are still investigating the incident.
