SHAVER LAKE, Calif. (KMPH) -
While many on the Valley floor are dealing with sweltering 100 plus degree temperatures, up at Shaver Lake it's some 20 degrees cooler.
Local business owners hope that means big money, in the form of tourist dollars.
Jet skiers had a lot of room to roam Friday afternoon on Shaver Lake, but come Saturday it will likely be a different story.
Tim McGuire and his family enjoyed the lake.
Tim McGuire says, "Everyday is like vacation up here, we love it."
Others enjoyed a swim.
Jacquelyn Bridger says, "The weather is amazing, escaping the heat, come out here on the lake and have a good time."
All that good time means big business for the area, especially at the Sierra Marina.
Sierra Marina owner, Sheldon Sandstrom couldn't be happier, especially after having to survive last year when Southern California Edison was forced to drain the lake.
The power company applied a new coating to the face of the dam.
Sheldon Sandstrom says, "Everybody had to work really hard, getting this marina and other businesses back up to speed. So that we could be open for the public it has been a blessing. We worked really hard to make sure the docks were put back together. This facility 5 acres was never designed to sit in the mud, we took it all apart and put it all back together."
In town, places like Shaver's Coffee and Deli are preparing for a busy weekend.
Norman Kato says, "We got all the kids working, plenty of help and all smiles ready to go."
Many restaurants like the Trading Post are already seeing the boom.
Taylor Johnson says "Super busy last night served about 130 dinners, anything over 100 is nice, and it's super hot in town so it's nice to have people come up here."
First time visitor, Don Phillips from Sacramento says he'll be back.
Don Phillips says, "I love it up here, its great come up here every weekend."
By the way, if you didn't get enough fireworks on the 4th of July.
Saturday, the 2012 Shaver Lake Fireworks Show & Boat Parade will take place.
The parade starts at six around the sierra marina.
