What's Fresno's dating scene like?
Cathy Wilcox of Fresno says, "Wow! Now that's a story."
For Wilcox, it was awkward. Unsatisfying.
She says, "I didn't meet a lot of professional men that I like. The kind that wear suits. That like to go to things other than tractor pulls and rodeos."
So how do you meet people in Fresno?
She says, "I had a couple relationships. I did some computer dating. But it just wasn't working."
But then she found Matchmaker Jennifer Barnett.
Jennifer says, "I'm constantly not happy until everyone's all matched up."
She's the Cupid in Cupid 4 Hire.
She says, "People have their lists. I really try to get past the lists."
Jennifer personally interviews each client.
She asks, "How many times you've been married. Do you smoke? Do you drink? How often do you drink? Are you religious? I ask the basic question but then I dig deeper for every question."
All in an effort to find out what clients really want.
Wilcox says, "He's got to be funny. And good looking and educated and easy and not high maintenance. I don't want the fixer uppers. I just want a turn-key kind of guy. Who's ready to go."
And with that information Cupid, or Jennifer, gets to work.
She says, "I say 'OK, this is who I have for you.' I send you pictures of who I've found. And information. 'See if you like any of them.' And if you do, I set up dates."
Wilcox says, "She suggests first dates. What you should, what you shouldn't do. Contacts you following the date. 'How did it go?' It can go really good or really bad. 'Do you want to see the person again, yes or no.' She really does all the heavy lifting."
And she navigates Fresnans through their dates.
Jennifer adds, "A lot of guys will ask me what do I wear. So we have to tell them what to wear because they don't want to wear tennis shoes with slacks or whatever guys do. Or socks with Tevas."
And helps clients like Cathy find their match.
Wilcox says, "We're in a serious, committed relationship and we're just seeing how it goes."
