MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

A kitten tossed from a moving van is safe in a new home, but his little brothers and sisters also seen flung into traffic are unaccounted for.

A driver said she saw a kitten being thrown out of a tan or gold minivan every few yards or so along the southbound lanes of Highway 99 near Avenue 13 outside Madera Thursday morning.

CHP officers were able to find one kitten. His face was a little banged up.

But at least four others are still out there somewhere, last seen running away from traffic into vegetation in the center divide.

Volunteers with the Friends of the Madera Animal Shelter are offering a $500 reward for information on who tossed those kittens from the van.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Madera County Animal Shelter at (559) 675-7891.
