FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
More than 60 firefighters battled a large fire at a textile recycling plant in Calwa Wednesday.
The fire broke out around 11 a.m. in the area of Orange and Church; that's south of Downtown Fresno.
Fire officials say a large mountain of pallets and carpets caught fire, sending plumes of black smoke into the air. The smoke could be seen for miles.
The fire spread into a 7,000-square-foot warehouse at the Soex West Textile Recycling plant. No other buildings were damaged.
Firefighters from Fresno City, Fresno County, Cal Fire and Selma helped tackle the flames.
By 3 p.m., the fire appeared to be knocked down. Fire crews said they planned to stay on the scene until late Wednesday evening.
There were no reports of any injuries. Fire officials urged people to avoid the area and stay indoors.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
