FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Fresno Police credit a city code inspector for helping them find a busy chop shop and car thief crew they didn't know existed until Tuesday afternoon.
A code inspector was checking out a house off Herndon and Maroa in North Fresno but called the cops to check out all the cars in the yard.
Members of Fresno PD's Career Criminal Auto Theft Team say they moved in and knew right away they were dealing with a yard full of stolen cars and parts. They say they also found guns and drugs and arrested three people.
Officers believe the men at the house stole cars and used the parts to make cars ready to street race. They also believe the chop shop ran for quite some time.
