Jack Alford
CLOVIS, Calif. (KMPH) -
Clovis Police have arrested a man accused of trying to steal copper wire.
Police say 48-year-old Jack Alford ripped copper wire out of a pole near Sunnyside and Tollhouse in Clovis on Monday. They say he took off and left the wire behind, but not before causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Alford was taken into custody during a traffic stop at Shaw and McKelvy around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators say they conducted a probation check at Alford's home and found a backpack with a pair of wire strippers, gloves and a flashlight. They say witness photos showed he had the backpack with him at the time of the attempted theft.
Alford was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism.
