Man Dies After Being Pulled From San Joaquin River

Posted:
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

A 48-year-old man is dead after the San Joaquin River proved too much to handle.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, rescue teams were called to Skaggs Bridge at Highway 145 and Bullard; that's west of Fresno.

Friends said the man wasn't a very good swimmer and was drinking before he went into the water. They told Fresno County Sheriff's Deputies he was in there five to ten minutes, and when he didn't come up, they went looking for him.

They took him out of the water and performed CPR until emergency crews got there.

The man was flown to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died around 1 a.m. Monday. His name has not been released.
