
New figures released by the Employment Development Department Friday morning show the unemployment rates across the Valley improved in May.
Here is a breakdown of the jobless rate for each county:
Merced: 17.3% in May, down from 18.5% in April.
Fresno: 14.9%, down from 15.8%.
Kings: 14.8%, down from 15.6%.
Tulare: 14.7%, down from 16.1%.
Madera: 14.3%, down from 15.5%.
California's unemployment rate dipped slightly in May to 10.8% as 33,900 jobs were added. The state's jobless rate was 10.9% in April.
