FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
A family is recovering at a hospital after suffering burns in a fire that destroyed their Central Fresno home.
The fire started after 1 a.m. Friday along College Avenue, in the area of Belmont and Fulton.
The family was able to make it out, but not before burning pieces of ceiling started falling on them.
Once firefighters arrived, they had a tough time as well. The flames were so strong, they were also forced out and had to fight the fire from outside.
Firefighters say there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
Investigators still don't know what caused the fire. Damage is estimated at about $75,000.
The family is expected to be okay. The Red Cross is helping them out.
