FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Two men and a teenager are in jail for burglarizing a West Fresno home Monday afternoon.
Police say the homeowner was hiding in a closet under the stairs listening to the whole thing.
Police caught up with the burglars after they broke into the home, rammed a police car, and then led officers on a high-speed chase.
The woman who was home at the time says she heard the doorbell ring.
She looked out the peephole and saw a man standing at the door. She then saw two other men jump the fence and try to get in the backyard.
Next thing she knew they were in the house. So she ran and hid in a closet under the stairs.
The homeowner says, "I heard them running up and down the stairs, running everywhere. It felt like forever. It's just scary. I didn't know if they had any weapons, and I wasn't going to come out for anything."
When police arrived they spotted three guys driving away from the home in a silver Honda.
Police tried to pull the car over, but the driver kept going.
A short chase began and the three suspects ended up hitting a patrol car on Pico Street.
When they got to the corner of Hayes and Ashlan they made a sharp turn and lost control hitting a pole.
Police boxed in the car, but the suspects ran.
One of the three was hurt in the crash, and quickly arrested. Officers say he is a known gang member who was already on parole.
A few minutes later, a 17-year-old runaway from Wisconsin was arrested.
And with the help of the California Highway Patrol helicopter the third suspect was found hiding on the roof of a nearby mobile home. Police say he's also a gang member.
Neighbors can't believe how bold these burglars have become.
Jenna Marquez says, "We've lived here for over three years and this is the first time that I've heard of anything like this, so yes it's actually really scary."
