FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Fresno Police say 35 people were arrested during the first day of an operation targeting a notorious gang in the area.
The month-long operation kicked off Friday evening.
Authorities say they are conducting this crackdown because more than a dozen shootings and other crimes last month involved gang members.
"They have demonstrated that they need our presence, and we're gonna give it to them. We're gonna be doing probation searches, parole searches, and we're gonna be making their lives miserable over the next 30 days in a very legal and professional way," Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said Friday.
Police say 22 of those arrested are gang members.
Ten guns were also recovered during the operation.
More than 100 law enforcement officers and deputies participated in the first day of the gang sweep.
