FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
A notorious Fresno gang was the target of a police roundup Friday night. Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer intends to send a message to the Bulldog gang in Fresno. A message he says that will be delivered over the course of a month not just one day.
The first stop on the Friday night sweep was an apartment complex at Fourth and Shaw in Northeast Fresno. Officers were decked out in helmets and bullet–proof vests. A validated Bulldog gang member was detained but not arrested.
Police had a search warrant to look for drugs and weapons but no luck at the stop. Maggie Eastman is tired of what she's been seeing. She's ready to move. "It worries me when I hear any police cars or anything. A bullet does not have a name. Anyone can get shot," Eastman said.
Last month, 16 shootings involved Bulldog gang members, not to mention two stabbings and an assault with a deadly weapon case. That's why the Bulldog gang is the target of the sweep. "They have demonstrated that they need our presence, and we're gonna give it to them. We're gonna be doing probation searches, parole searches, and we're gonna be making their lives miserable over the next 30 days in a very legal and professional way," Chief Jerry Dyer said.
In the first three hours of the gang sweep, Fresno Police made 12 arrests. Ten of the people arrested are validated gang members.
