MADERA, Calif. (KMPH) -
It was an eventful last day of school for students at Desmond Middle School in Madera on Friday.
The campus was on heightened security after threatening messages were sent over the Internet and cell phones.
Madera Unified administrators say someone hacked into a Facebook page and sent the messages earlier this week. They did not elaborate, but took it seriously enough to inform parents and bring in additional security.
While the campus was not placed on lockdown, all classrooms were locked, students were escorted and everyone going and coming from the campus was scanned by a security wand.
The Madera County Sheriff's Department also sent a volunteer to help with security efforts.
Madera Police are investigating the messages and are in the process of narrowing down who sent them.
