FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -
A ceremony was held Wednesday morning to pay tribute to a Reedley officer killed in the line of duty.
Corporal Javier Bejar was killed in a shootout in the town of Minkler in 2010.
A five-mile portion of Reed Avenue, from Highway 180, was dedicated in his honor.
Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy Joel Wahlenmaier was also killed in the shootout, along with their accused killer.
Wahlenmaier had been serving a search warrant when he was shot. Bejar was among the dozens of officers who provided back-up.
A portion of Highway 168 leading up to Shaver Lake was dedicated in honor of Joel Wahlenmaier back in October 2011.
