MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -
Madera County is using a $38,000 grant to help fight bullying.
On YouTube you can see video of confident kids, students of the "radKIDS" Program, repeatedly and loudly yelling, "no, no, no", while hitting and kicking their "attacker."
It's all part of a new training program that Sheriff John Anderson says will soon be available to every kid in Madera County thanks to money from Chukchansi Casino.
Announcing the news Wednesday, Madera County Sheriffs Detective Kristine Hawks explained how the radKIDS program works.
"In class every five to seven minutes the kids participate in a scenario… and the child has to figure out how to escape that situation. Not to engage them, just to block the attack to get away and to seek help."
The Madera County Sheriffs Office hopes to offer the program to all schools in Madera County.
"RAD" stands for "Resisting Aggression Defensively" and is targeted for kids aged three-and-a-half to twelve years old.
For more information on the program and how to enroll your child, contact the Madera County Sheriffs Office at (559) 675-7703.
