FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
A cross that was stolen from the Shrine of St. Therese Catholic Church in Fresno last week - believed to be made from the cross that Jesus died on – has been returned to the church.
Father Michael Burchfield says a woman dropped the cross off at the church Tuesday night.
He says she found the cross in a field in the Tower District a couple of days ago and kept it, but after watching KMPH, she realized its importance and gave it back.
Father Burchfield says the church will give her the $500 reward that was raised for the cross's safe return.
The priest says the woman will use the money to pay her water bill so she can have running water in her home, and calls the situation a miracle for both parties.
