Sunnyside High School Gets New Flag Pole

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

It's important for baseball players to salute a little red, white and blue before a game. And now, a team in the Valley is getting that chance.

Sunnyside High School has its own flag pole now. The school was without one for years, until a senior and his grandfather made it a priority. They rallied up the community to pay for one, and now, there's a pole, 13 stripes and 50 stars on the field.

"I've been here for all four years, and he's tried to do as much as he can, and he's finally done something pretty big," said student Robbie Gonzalez.

"I just wanted a flag for the boys, for the rest of the kids that play. You know, it's not only for the ones that are playing this year but my grandson that's playing, and it'll be there for the rest of them that come through here," said Hector Gonzalez, Robbie's grandfather.

The timing couldn't be better. On Friday, the boys will play their last home game against Sanger High.
