Older Americans have done, and continue doing, many things for the nation and for other Americans. This May, for the 20th consecutive year, we celebrate them and show our appreciation with the nationwide commemoration of Older Americans Month.
Senior Care Corner joins in celebrating what seniors mean to America and promoting the theme of this year’s Older Americans Month, which is Never Too Old to Play, encouraging the nation’s more than 40 million seniors (according to the 2010 Census) to stay active and engaged in their lives and communities.
“Staying active and engaged helps keep seniors – and all of us – healthier mentally and physically” says Kathy Birkett, Senior Care Corner co-founder. “By putting the Never Too Old to Play theme into action, we can give something back to older Americans, hopefully a benefit that extends beyond Older Americans Month.”
There are many ways to get involved and put the Older Americans Month theme into action. The U.S. Administration on Aging’s website for the commemoration encourages organizations to host a day of play for the community, but individuals can take action on their own as well.
