FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -
The man who drowned in a ponding basin near Easton Sunday afternoon has been identified.
The Fresno County Coroner's Office confirmed 21-year-old Gabriel Ramirez as the Valley's latest drowning victim.
It happened just before 1 p.m. near Chestnut and Jefferson.
Fresno County Sheriff's Deputes believe Ramirez had been drinking before he decided to jump in.
Deputies say two women who were with Ramirez called for help nearly 20 minutes after they realized he hadn't come up for air.
Emergency crews pulled him out of the water and tried to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
This is the third drowning in Fresno County in the last couple of days. Two people drowned while swimming in the San Joaquin River last week.
