WASHINGTON (KMPH) -
The Department of Veterans Affairs is hiring more than 2,000 mental health workers, including some here in Fresno.
The VA Secretary said Thursday the government needs to make sure all veterans have adequate access to health care.
The department says it plans to add about 1,600 clinicians and about 300 support staff to an existing mental health staff of almost 30-thousand.
A Department spokesperson says, it'll begin recruiting immediately.
Since 2007, the VA has seen a 35 percent increase in the number of veterans receiving mental health services.
