Improving Economy? Washington Says Unemployment Down

WASHINGTON (KMPH) -

Encouraging news on employment.

The U.S. Department of Labor is reporting 2,000 fewer people applied for unemployment last week.

386,000 new claims were filed.

This is a smaller number than last week when the number of unemployment claims went up for the first time in several weeks.

California's job figures for March will be released Friday.
