Valley Vets Invade Sacramento; Come Back With $ For New Homes

Posted:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Mission accomplished! Valley veterans are now looking forward to the opening of a new veterans home in Fresno by next summer, thanks to a successful trip to the state capitol.

More than a hundred Valley vets left for Sacramento early Wednesday where they demanded lawmakers restore funding for Fresno's veterans home.

Governor Jerry Brown proposed to delay the opening of veterans homes in Fresno and Redding until 2014 to save money, but an Assembly budget subcommittee Wednesday rejected the governor's proposal.

Now, $10.6 million dollars has been restored to pay for staff so the new veterans homes can open on time. That could be as early as July of 2013.
