FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a Fresno man wanted for questioning in the disappearance of a Sanger teenager.

Detectives are looking for 21-year-old Ernie Chanmany. They believe he may have been involved in the disappearance of 16-year-old Sammy Mercado.

Chanmany is described as 5'6" tall, weighing about 135 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Detectives say they are also looking for two vehicles associated with Chanmany. The first is described as an emerald green 1995 Dodge Ram extended 4x4 pickup truck with California license plate 54467A1. The truck has silver or white along the bottom portion of the body and is lifted with big tires and black rims.

The second vehicle is described as a red 1997 Dodge 1500 extended cab pickup truck with California license plate 4HPU643.

Deputies say Mercado and two other people were trying to steal marijuana plants from a field near Annadale and Willow last Thursday morning.

As Mercado got out of their car, two men stepped out of a hut on the property. Deputies say one of the men started shooting at Mercado and the car.

The two people Mercado was with took off in the car and left him behind. The two last saw Mercado lying on the ground next to the marijuana.

Investigators say the two returned later to try to find Mercado but could not.

Evidence recovered at the scene revealed that Mercado was possibly shot or otherwise hurt, detectives said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
