A huge get by the Fresno State basketball program as seven foot, center, Robert Upshaw signs a letter of intent to play for the Bulldogs. Upshaw who planned to play at Kansas State, changed his mind when the Wildcats' head coach left for a new job, leaving the door open for Rodney Terry, and coaches around the nation, to re–engage the San Joaquin Memorial star. Terry's work for the past four years pays off. He was recruiting Upshaw when he was still an assistant at Texas. Terry, nor anyone else in the program, can comment on Upshaw until all the paperwork is done.
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team fell to San Jose State 11-2 Sunday in the final contest of a three-game series at Beiden Field. The Spartans improved to 17-14 on the season while Fresno State fell to 15-19.
"We've got some work to do," head coach Mike Batesole said. "We've got practice plans to put together and we'll keep grinding and keep working; and hopefully it'll turn for us. When it turns, it can turn quick."
Senior Patrick Hutcheson was one bright spot for the Bulldogs. The left-hand hitting infielder added two more hits to his current three-game hitting streak. In all, Hutcheson finished the weekend 6-for-10 with an RBI and three runs scored.
The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Hutcheson doubled to right center and head coach Mike Batesole promptly sent pinch-hitter Patrick Moultrie to the plate with a runner in scoring position. Moultrie responded by lining a single to center and pulling Fresno State within one run.
But a seven-run sixth put the game away for San Jose State, knocking sophomore starter Tyler Linehan out of the game.
"That's the hardest we've seen Linnehan work in two years," said Batesole. "Throughout the last four games our pitchers have been working and doing everything they can to win."
Freshman Garrett Mundell worked a scoreless ninth in relief, striking out two.
Fresno State will look to turn things around quickly this Tuesday at Cal Poly at 6 p.m. While there will be no radio on Tuesday, you can follow on GameTracker right here at GoBulldogs.com.
