Babysitter Accused Of Murder; Case Going Forward

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Reedley babysitter accused of killing a toddler in 2009 could be going to trial as early as this May.

During a hearing Thursday morning, a judge decided the case against Megan Martzen will go forward.

Attorneys for Martzen presented evidence they say proves 18-month-old Ella Van Leeuwen's death was accidental.

Investigators said the little girl suffered deadly head injuries while Martzen was watching her.

Martzen says the toddler fell off the bed.

Martzen has since given birth to a son and is out on bail, which she was able to make thanks to donations from community members.
