Local rescue workers tell KMPH News that the Central California SPCA is still refusing to let them rescue animals on death row.
The controversy began a few weeks ago when the SPCA issued a contract to local rescues, forcing them to agree to about a dozen stipulations, or no longer be allowed to rescue animals from the shelter.
Since last Friday, when the contract went into effect, rescue workers have tried to pull animals from the shelter only to be denied. They also presented the SPCA with a revised contract, but have yet to receive a response from the SPCA.
Rescue groups say they save about 3,000 dogs and cats from the Central California SPCA every year.
