HANFORD, Calif. (KMPH) -
Hanford's City Manager has resigned amid accusations of corruption and mistreating employees.
Hilary Straus submitted his resignation Sunday. He had been Hanford's top paid city official since 2010.
Several managers within the city and police union submitted letters of no confidence in him claiming Straus was incompetent and treated workers badly.
Last week, someone delivered a packet of letters accusing him of corruption.
"As for the particular reasons why Mr. Straus resigned, I don't know. He did not give a reason. If you were to ask him, I bet he would probably say that he did what he felt was in the best interest of the city," Hanford City Attorney Mario Zamora said.
Straus is not walking away empty-handed. Zamora says he will get some type of severance package -- possibly a year's salary, which is about $160,000. The City Council will decide how much.
We could learn who will be the new city manager at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
