FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
A Fresno County jury on Friday found 52-year-old Cesario Garibay Benitez guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a man in Parlier.
Investigators say Benitez shot 34-year-old Israel Lopez in the head outside a home near K and Merced streets in March 2011. Lopez was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
About a week later, officers with the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Benitez in Tulare County. Authorities say he still had the murder weapon.
Benitez faces 50 years to life in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 6.
